My 50 Books in 2018 Challenge and Why You Should Join

I made the call in December 2017 that I would challenge myself to read 50 books in 2018.

Pretty aggressive, considering I maybe read 13 books in 2017.

But I fucking LOVE reading.

I also have a significant amount of unread books sitting on my shelf / on my Amazon wish list that I really want to get through — I just haven’t ever made the time.

This challenge was being called out to me from my heart, so this is a “soul goal” (as Jenny Blake calls them) to get me back on track with what I truly love spending my time doing.

Growing up, I used to spend my days getting lost in books, and would fall asleep every night reading.

Of course, as I got older, my time getting lost in books faded away, and my downtime got filled with mindless scrolling on Instagram.

So I challenge myself this year to reclaim that love for reading.

It is a little scary and unrealistic, I haven’t read that much in a year in over 20 years, but that’s what makes it a transformational goal — I can’t just half ass it, I have to change my life to hit this goal.

I always prioritize continuous education, and reading is a proven way to stay on top of your game. I also want to write a book at some point in my life (another soul goal) — so I want to expose myself to all that is out there.

Yes, there is a chance I won’t hit this goal, but I cannot and will not let the fear of failure stop me from challenging myself and putting this out there.

I know that once I put an idea out into the universe, it will attract and send me the people, resources, and support that I need.

This happened almost immediately once I put my goal out there in December, as my friendtor (friend-mentor) Tom Kuegler also said that he wanted to read more this year and was going to go for 50 as well! We both agreed that we simply needed to make the time to read regularly and that this goal would definitely motivate us to do that, as this isn’t something one can cram in at the end of the year.

I would love for you to join us in taking on this challenge to read more, learn more, and mindlessly scroll through Instagram a lot less this year.

What do you think about this 50 Books in 2018 reading challenge? Let me know if you’ll be joining Tom Kuegler and I on this literary adventure!
