The Secret Lives of Introverts
Inside Our Hidden World, by Jenn Granneman
Discovering that I was an introvert, and an INFJ introvert at that, totally changed my life. (I highly recommend taking the Myers Briggs personality test.)
I’ve been devouring content about introverts ever since that moment five+ years ago, and have been a huge fan of Jenn Granneman’s Introvert, Dearwebsite (turned introvert revolution) from the start in 2013.
I was delighted when Jenn published The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World in 2017.
Growing up as an introvert, I so often felt alone and misunderstood — mostly because I didn’t understand myself enough to figure out what I needed and how to describe how I was feeling.
Jenn covers everything you need to know if you’re an introvert, or have an introverted loved one that you’re trying to understand better — from what being an introvert actually means, introvert misconceptions, to how introverts charge energy wise.
It’s filled with personal anecdotes and quotes from introverts that help to truly describe what it’s like to be introverted.
This book is filled with reassuring gems that every introvert needs to hear:
“But the most important thing to know about being an introvert is that there’s nothing wrong with you.
You’re not broken because you’re quiet.
It’s okay to stay home on a Friday night instead of going to a party. Being an introvert is a perfectly normal “thing” to be.”
I would highly recommend this book to all introverts — whether you’ve just discovered your personality type, have embraced it for years, or are struggling with accepting yourself. You’ll become more knowledgeable about yourself, learn how to describe yourself, and how to best handle and interact with the world.
